If you are reading this Blog, you will notice there is no Day 2. Day 2 was spent arriving at the airport and then flying the 13 hours to Ethiopia. From here the Blog begins on Monday morning, Day 3!
We arrived into Addis Abbaba, Ethiopia on-time and for Skip, Ben, Vicki, and Sadie the "Twilight Zone” of the Addis airport began to unfold. We unloaded from plane onto the tarmac and were shuttled to the unair-conditioned, smoking, Terminal A which is very small. We quickly learned that we would first have to stop in Entebbe, Uganda, before getting into Kigali, Rwanda.
We departed Addis almost on-time and after an hour on the ground in Uganda landed in Kigali, Rwanda 90 minutes later than scheduled.
Isaac Tyrell, who co-manages Victory Home of Champions with his wife Serena, met us—warmly—at the airport. Also, our family's dear friend Etienne Sentore was there to meet us too! All of our bags made it with us and we were so pleased.
We stopped for a few provisions for the team and it was off to Victory Home 40 minutes away (20 minutes from the edge of Kigali).
When we arrived all the children and Mama’s were waiting for us and gave us a wonderful welcome by singing a song and hugging us all. Wow, what a place! Everyone was so welcoming and happy—they really shared their love of our Lord with us.
The evening ended with Serena cooking a huge meal for the team. We talked about our travel, our lives, what brought us to Rwanda and then—to the choir of VERY LARGE frogs—we headed off to bed, Rwanda-style.
