Hey everyone!!! This is Sadie here! It is now our 8th day on our trip! So here are some highlights for today:
Nick, mom, two kids from the orphanage, and I went to buy sodas in a little village. We walked there and carried/pushed all of the sodas there back. And for 72 bottles of soda we paid 15,000 franks. Haha, that is only about 21-28 cents per bottle in our money.
I also let the kids play with my hair today. At first they were massaging my head, and it felt good, lol. Then they were goin’ nuts playing with it. My mom had to make them stop cause I almost had dreadlocks! I can’t wait to show ya all the pictures of it! While they played with my hair they looked at my teeth and said “what is on your teeth?” (I have braces) I said “these are called braces. They make my teeth straight.” Then they also looked at my ears and said “you have 2?!” (I have 2nd holes in my ears) I said “haha, yep!” A lot of the girls here actually have their ears done. That kinda surprised me.
So there is also an annual talent show tonight. It hasn’t happened yet, so I can’t really say much about it. I will tell ya later.
Muraho everyone!… (hello!) Ben here. Today was a great day for working. I had the opportunity to dig a trench with Ed that was going to be used for another water source so the kids would not have to carry water to their fields. The hoes here are incredible… they’re like a combination of a shovel, hoe, and mining pick all in one. Even though the hoe is amazing for digging… the ground is relentless. If it’s not compacted dirt that resembles the density of cement, it is small rocks so close together that it would be like chopping through shale. It is a very humbling experience to dig these trenches. Be thankful for our machines and hard workers at home. Thank you so much for your prayers and please keep praying for us. God bless!
Hi everyone! This is Nick. We did more painting today and then we helped Dad and Ben dig the trench for a new water pipe for the church. Wow! The trench was so hard to dig because we were digging through compacted stones which formed into solid rock in some places. Dad bent one of the hoes and Serafina fixed it for us. We dug for over 6 hours and I was really tired. The trench is not done and Isaac will be hiring some Rwandans to help finish the trench so we can get the water pipe installed before we leave Victory Home. We are all having fun and I’m the only one who has not gotten sick—thank you God! After we were really tired from digging, we played soccer with the some of the children. Skip was a great defender, but I scored three goals against the other team’s muzungu goalie..Dad! He was no match for me and my Rwandan team from Victory Home.
Th sunset tonight was another gorgeous Rwandan sunset. The people of the village and this home are all so nice. The children have great manners and are extremely well cared-for by Papa Isaac and Mama Serena. Love of one-another is so evident here! This is truly a large family that loves each other and honors Jesus.
Another blessed day of work and serving God in Rwanda!
AMEN!
